Frankie Miñoza Cup

The Philippines' Premier Golfer Frankie Miñoza has set up his own foundation called the Frankie Minoza Golf Foundation. The foundation aims to identify young talented individuals coming from the Visayas-Mindanao region and provide them the necessary education, social skills, equipment and tournament exposure to become world-class golfers. Basically they want to produce the next Frankie Miñoza and show the world that the Filipino golfers are a force to reckon with.

I was lucky enough to be part of their first event, the inaugural FRANKIE MINOZA CUP held last August 4-7, 2011 at the beautiful Del Monte Golf Club in Manolo Fortrich, Bukidnon. It was a well attended event with about 300 golfers competing for individual honors and 69 teams in the 4-man team event. Family, sponsors, partners and friends from Manila, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Zamboanga, Davao, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Hong Kong, Macau, and Japan all came to have fun but more importantly be part of such a great endeavor.

The air was filled with camaraderie and excitement, and countless prizes were up for grabs as there were multiple Hole-In-One prizes for each Par 3! Aside from trophies, the FM Foundation gave away prizes for each of the winners such as Odyssey putters, shafts, mobile phones, and Fourteen wedges. But there were more giveaways as they raffled off television sets, refrigerators and even motorbikes. Everybody was happy especially since each participant got a FM Foundation golf shirt as a remembrance of this momentous event. To Frankie Miñoza and the people behind his foundation - we support you and your foundation, more power!
